DIVORCE SOLUTION
DIVORCE SOLUTION
Divorce Solution Therapy (often referred to as Discernment Counseling or Divorce Mediation Therapy) is a specialized, short-term form of counseling. It is designed for couples where at least one partner is considering ending the marriage, but a final decision has not been made, or for couples who have decided to split and want to do so with minimal "collateral damage."
It differs from traditional marriage therapy because the goal isn't necessarily to "save" the marriage—it’s to find the right resolution for everyone involved.
This is the "pre-divorce" phase. It is specifically for "mixed-agenda" couples—where one person wants to save the marriage (the "leaning-in" partner) and the other wants to leave (the "leaning-out" partner).
- The Focus: Understanding what happened to the marriage and looking at each person’s contribution to the breakdown.
- Structure: Short-term (usually 1–5 sessions).
Emotional Regulation: Managing the anger and grief so it doesn't bleed into legal battles.
Communication Protocols: Learning how to talk about finances and logistics without exploding
- Cost Reduction: Couples who resolve emotional bitterness in therapy spend significantly less on lawyers and "spite-driven" litigation.
- Child Protection: It reduces the "toxic stress" children feel when parents are at war.
Closure: It provides a space to say "goodbye" and process the "why," which prevents carrying the same baggage into the next relationship
The "solution" in Divorce Therapy is clarity. Whether that leads to a revitalized marriage or a peaceful, respectful parting, the therapy aims to remove the "fog" of high-conflict emotions
